Torres del Paine Eco Camp

Inspected By Experience Chile
Approved By Experience Chile

Introduction

Located in the eastern side of Torres del Paine situated up on a hill about 30mts above and 50mts further east of the Torres del Paine Welcome Centre and Refugio Central. The camp comprises a number of octagon metal-frame domes, divided into three categories, covered in tough plastic sheeting to provide roomy bedrooms.

The suite domes are the largest with lots of space including king-sized double bed, log-burning stove, plastic view window and en-suite shower and WC room. Decorated inside like a Bedouin tent with drapes and indigenous fabrics. Outside deck area for sitting down and viewing the Torres and stunning scenery.

The Superior domes (4) are like the Suite domes but smaller and with a small wall heater.

The standard domes (8) are smaller than the superior with no heat and no en-suite, but use of centrally located communal shower and WC facilities.

In the middle of the camp are the “core” domes, which are large domes containing a shop, restaurant and lounge. Adjoined to this is a bar (not under a dome, but conventional wooden roof) and an outdoor deck area for when the sun shines. All domes are connected together by boardwalks.

Very much “high-end” camping and a new experience for most, albeit sometimes with the wind rattling in and around the domes. A relaxed atmosphere, laid back staff.

Very ECO conscious with a focus on minimising as much as possible the carbon footprint and damage to the environment. The waste from the WC is channelled into a chamber to convert into peat, for example and no loo paper is allowed into the WC so one has to use a plastic bin for paper disposal. They recycle as much as the can.

Good for groups.

This is a good place to stay and enjoy comfort, but also the camaraderie often found at hostels, and complete the full W Trek or just do part of the trek. To arrange your accommodation with us, email us…

Torres del Paine Hosteria Pehoe

Inspected By Experience Chile

Introduction

This is the place seen on nearly all the classic pictures of Torres del Paine. The small building on an island dwarfed by the massive Cuernos of Paine.

The building that has the spectacular view contains the restaurant and only from there do you get the direct sight of the Torres del Paine cuernos.

There are two categories of room here. One is superior offering decent-level accommodation, but incredibly no views to the stunning Central Massif, except two. The other category is the standard room block of older, but refurbished rooms that all face into a small courtyard and offer no views to anywhere – but accommodation is comfortable.

This is a good place to stay for logistics if you need to take the catamaran over to Paine Grande or if you want a hotel for the central part of the W trek and not a refugio.

We can include this property in your Patagonia itinerary.

Most people will have seen a picture of the Cuernos of Paine and a small building on an island connected by a foot bridge to the shore. The building on the island is Hotel Pehoe. It is located in the heart of Torres del Paine, on a tiny island on Pehoe Lake. Built originally as a fisherman’s lodge it has expanded over the years into a hotel for visitors to Torres del Paine.

The main building contains the restaurant and it is from here where you get a rather stunning close-up view to the Cuernos of Paine. However, being that this building has not changed much since its construction, the windows through which the great can be seen are, unfortunately, held together by thick, wooden window frames that break the view in many places.

The accommodation blocks are set to the west of the main building. The superior rooms are reasonable, but only two have a view to the Cuernos. The rest have an ordinary view out to the main building or part of the lake.

The standard rooms are small, but renovated to offer decent accommodation. However, there are no views out of the standard rooms because they all face into an inner court-yard garden area. To arrange your accommodation with us, email us…

Torres del Paine Hotel Las Torres

Inspected By Experience Chile

Introduction

Hotel Las Torres is located on private land in Torres del Paine and is also at the head of the trail that leads up to Refugio Chileno (2hrs) and Torres Base (4hrs).

The hotel has grown from being a rustic, simple lodge for hikers into a more comfortable accommodation style. We can include Hotel Las Torres in your itinerary for one or two nights or a full all-inclusive plan.

Located in the eastern side of Torres del Paine, the hotel started as a private house in the middle of a privately-owned estancia. The owners still run the estancia, but expanded the original homestead into a proper hotel comprising three categories of room.

This is the start or end of the trail head that goes up to Refugio Chileno and Las Torres Base as well as over to Refugio Cuernos. Consequently it serves as a good comfort option to do the Torres Base trek (9hrs return from the hotel) and avoid staying in a refugio. The hotel also offers all-inclusive programs.

Three room categories are:

  • Lenga – is the oldest, rooms smaller than the other two, but OK, these rooms are nearest the restaurant.
  • Canelo – to the left of the main entrance is, good-sized rooms, good bathrooms too.
  • Cipres – Further down from Canelo, more modern, good-sized rooms and bathrooms; large windows.

Room on the mountain side have view to Almirante Mountain and glacier. The other side has views to the lower hills of TDP.

Walk way to restaurant is exposed to the elements and can be cold and wet. The spa is at basic level

A family business, all staff wearing local baquales “cowboy” uniforms. To arrange your accommodation with us, email us…

Torres del Paine Hotel Lago Grey

Inspected By Experience Chile
Approved By Experience Chile

Introduction

Hotel Lago Grey is located at the southern end of Grey lake in Torres del Paine. The superior rooms are modern in design and those from the second floor up have a great view to the lake and Grey glacier at the far end. The older, standard rooms do not have any particular views, but the rooms are generally spacious.

As this is also the departure point for the Navigation Grey boat at times it can be very busy in the reception and cafe area creating a “commercial” atmosphere. We can include Hotel Grey in your Patagonia itinerary for one or two nights (or longer of course) or for a 4-night, all-inclusive program.

The hotel sits on the southern shore of Lago Grey lake in the western side of Torres del Paine.

The newer, superior rooms are modern in style and offer a good level of accommodation. The ones on the second floor have the superb views to Grey Lake, any icebergs in the lake and the glacier at the far end. The rooms on the ground floor have this view obscured by an earthen mound and trees.

The standard rooms are the older ones, and are spacious, but with no direct views to anything of particular interest.

The main, commercial-style restaurant has large picture windows that allow for a magnificent view to Grey Lake and the glacier at the far end. The adjacent bar area also offers the same view to the lake and glacier.

The hotel is the meeting point for people waiting to take the Navigation grey to see the glacier or go over to Refugio Grey, which means there can be, at times, a lot of people having a coffee or lunch making the place feel very commercial.

The hotel offers a good stop over for those going on to the W trek from Refugio Grey, or ending the W trek after Refugio Grey, or for 4-night (or more) all-inclusive program of tours in Torres del Paine.

ExperienceChile.Org offers all-inclusive and bed and breakfast programs at Hotel Lago Grey.
