Self-Drive the Carretera Austral, Puerto Montt to Coyhaique, Patagonia

Introduction

The route of the Carretera Austral between Puerto Montt to Coyhaique is 765km. In-between the start and end points are a number of stop-off places where you can overnight to rest as well as enjoy the area around such destinations.

What we aim to do in this section is to offer you suggested stages in which to drive the route. These stages are in a logical sequence, starting from Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas and then travelling south.

This part of the Carretera Austral will start in the southern part of the Chilean Lake Region and then enter the Aysen Region.
