News Update Chile Situation

Chile Situation

Here is our latest update of the situation in Chile from our unique standpoint of actually being based in Santiago de Chile.

The general trend has been that the overall situation of demonstrations, and violent demonstrations has calmed down a lot. Every now and then there is a small "out break" of localised vandalism in the poorer areas of some cities, but that is about it.

There could be a general strike this week and if that goes ahead then there could be some vandalism against the authorities.

Our Travel Advice

In general the country is functioning in a normal way. There is no specific threat to tourists and visitors to the country, however, we do have some suggestions per destination:
Santiago airport: Fully operational, always has been and never been the slightest bit affected by any of the demonstrations.

Santiago City: Although there has not been any demonstrations over the past week, should there be any it would be wise to avoid the areas where there tends to be gathering of people such as down-town Santiago and the Plaza Italia (Baquedano metro station area).

Note that the destinations below are a long way away from any cities, except Santiago and Valparaiso, which are cities.

Torres del Paine: Operational and open for business, never been affected by any of the social unrest.

San Pedro de Atacama: Operational and open for business, never been affected by any of the social unrest.

Easter Island: Operational and open for business, never been affected by any of the social unrest.

Pucon (Lake Region): Operational and open for business, never been affected by any of the social unrest.

Chiloe: Operational and open for business, never been affected by any of the social unrest.

Patagonia: Operational and open for business, never been affected by any of the social unrest.

Wine Valleys: All operational and open for business, never been affected by any of the social unrest.

Patagonia Cruises: All operational and open for business, never been affected by any social unrest.

Antarctica Expeditions: All operational and open for business, never been affected by any social unrest.

Valparaiso: Operational, however, we suggest to avoid this city for the time being. There continues to be some pockets of unrest in lower Valpo and this would likely make a stay here uncomfortable.
It's Summer Time!

Remember the summer is here in Chile right now! The central valley has lovely hot, sunny days and this is a great place to escape the northern hemisphere winter. Come on down!
