What hotels are East of Torres del Paine?

To the east of TDP we have Tierra Patagonia, Awasi Patagonia and Estancia Cerro Guido.

What hotels are South of Torres del Paine?

To the south of TDP we have Patagonia (Yurt) Camp.

View Hotels SOUTH ↓

If a hotel is within the boundary line of Torres del Paine or not should have no effect at all on your enjoyment of the park and its surroundings. No matter where you are, during a typical day, you will need to travel an hour or more to get to another place within TDP. Also, the views and scenery are spectacular from most places, although less so from the Hotel Las Torres and ECO Camp, but in these places you gain from being at the trail head up to Torres base.

The quality of accommodation varies. There are the “World Class” top end of hotels such as Explora Salto Chico, Tierra Patagonia, Awasi Patagonia to the unique places such as the Estancia Cerro Guido; good level such as Hotel Lago Grey; commercial level such as Hotel Rio Serrano and Hotel Las Torres,  and more rustic level such as Hotel Paine and Hotel Pehoe. Then there is the up-market camping (called “glamping”) level of ECO Camp and Patagonia Camp.

Here below we have a short description of each property and some photos. ExperienceChile.Org works with all these hotels, which, of course, have different room rates. However, we only offer to make reservations in these properties if they are part of your overall itinerary.

HOTEL LAS TORRES →

Hotels Within Boundary Lines of Torres del Paine National Park

Located in the eastern side of Torres del Paine, the hotel started as a private house in the middle of a privately-owned estancia. The owners still run the estancia, but expanded the original homestead into a proper hotel comprising three categories of room.

This is the start or end of the trail head that goes up to Refugio Chileno and Las Torres Base as well as over to Refugio Cuernos. Consequently it serves as a good comfort option to do the Torres Base trek (9hrs return from the hotel) and avoid staying in a refugio. The hotel also offers all-inclusive programs.

Three room categories are:
Lenga – is the oldest, rooms smaller than the other two, but OK, these rooms are nearest the restaurant.

Canelo – to the left of the main entrance is, good-sized rooms, good bathrooms too.

Cipres – Further down from Canelo, more modern, good-sized rooms and bathrooms; large windows.

Room on the mountain side have view to Almirante Mountain and glacier. The other side has views to the lower hills of TDP.

Walk way to restaurant is exposed to the elements and can be cold and wet. The spa is at basic level

A family business, all staff wearing local baquales “cowboy” uniforms.

HOTEL
LAGO GREY →

The hotel sits on the southern shore of Lago Grey lake in the western side of Torres del Paine.

The newer, superior rooms are modern in style and offer a good level of accommodation. The ones on the second floor have the superb views to Grey Lake, any icebergs in the lake and the glacier at the far end. The rooms on the ground floor have this view obscured by an earthen mound and trees.

The standard rooms are the older ones, and are spacious, but with no direct views to anything of particular interest.

The main, commercial-style restaurant has large picture windows that allow for a magnificent view to Grey Lake and the glacier at the far end. The adjacent bar area also offers the same view to the lake and glacier.

The hotel is the meeting point for people waiting to take the Navigation grey to see the glacier or go over to Refugio Grey, which means there can be, at times, a lot of people having a coffee or lunch making the place feel very commercial.

The hotel offers a good stop over for those going on to the W trek from Refugio Grey, or ending the W trek after Refugio Grey, or for 4-night (or more) all-inclusive program of tours in Torres del Paine.

HOSTERIA PEHOE →

Most people will have seen a picture of the Cuernos of Paine and a small building on an island connected by a foot bridge to the shore. The building on the island is Hotel Pehoe. It is located in the heart of Torres del Paine, on a tiny island on Pehoe Lake. Built originally as a fisherman’s lodge it has expanded over the years into a hotel for visitors to Torres del Paine.

The main building contains the restaurant and it is from here where you get a rather stunning close-up view to the Cuernos of Paine. However, being that this building has not changed much since its construction, the windows through which the great can be seen are, unfortunately, held together by thick, wooden window frames that break the view in many places.

The accommodation blocks are set to the west of the main building. The superior rooms are reasonable, but only two have a view to the Cuernos. The rest have an ordinary view out to the main building or part of the lake.

The standard rooms are small, but renovated to offer decent accommodation. However, there are no views out of the standard rooms because they all face into an inner court-yard garden area.

ExperienceChile.Org can offer transfers to Hotel Pehoe if we are booking an overnight or longer stay.

Domes

ECO CAMP →

Located in the eastern side of Torres del Paine situated up on a hill about 30mts above and 50mts further east of the Torres del Paine Welcome Centre and Refugio Central. The camp comprises a number of octagon metal-frame domes, divided into three categories, covered in tough plastic sheeting to provide roomy bedrooms.

The suite domes are the largest with lots of space including king-sized double bed, log-burning stove, plastic view window and en-suite shower and WC room. Decorated inside like a Bedouin tent with drapes and indigenous fabrics. Outside deck area for sitting down and viewing the Torres and stunning scenery.

The Superior domes (4) are like the Suite domes but smaller and with a small wall heater.

The standard domes (8) are smaller than the superior with no heat and no en-suite, but use of centrally located communal shower and WC facilities.

In the middle of the camp are the “core” domes, which are large domes containing a shop, restaurant and lounge. Adjoined to this is a bar (not under a dome, but conventional wooden roof) and an outdoor deck area for when the sun shines. All domes are connected together by boardwalks.

Very much “high-end” camping and a new experience for most, albeit sometimes with the wind rattling in and around the domes. A relaxed atmosphere, laid back staff.

Very ECO conscious with a focus on minimising as much as possible the carbon footprint and damage to the environment. The waste from the WC is channelled into a chamber to convert into peat, for example and no loo paper is allowed into the WC so one has to use a plastic bin for paper disposal. They recycle as much as the can.

Good for groups.

This is a good place to stay and enjoy comfort, but also the camaraderie often found at hostels, and complete the full W Trek or just do part of the trek.

ExperienceChile.Org offers all-inclusive programs at ECO Camp.

EXPLORA
SALTO CHICO→

The modern white exterior of the square-edged, block-like appearance of the hotel betrays what is inside. The Salto Chico Hotel is the “pioneer” hotel that started the new concept of luxury accommodation with all food (good food), services and facilities included in the cost that has snce been emulated by other luxury lodges throughout Chile. It occupies an enviable location in TDP with stunning views from each bedroom (on the cordillera side), restaurant and lounge areas over Lake Pehoe and the massive Cuernos (meaning horns) de Paine at the end. Cosy rooms with sufficient space to not be cramped, bathrooms of reasonable size, nicely finished and decorated, also with viewing windows from which you can admire the TDP Massiff whilst attending to natures call!

Should we include an itinerary or reservation (min 4-night all-inclusive stay) at Explora Salto Chico we will also include one of the following free of charge: Return flight per person Santiago to Punta Arenas (or Puerto Natales), hotel room for two, for one night any-where in Chile or Argentina up to USD400 per night, or a transfer from or to El Calafate if not included in the initial reservation.

HOTEL
RIO SERRANO

A large, city-style hotel that stands out from the natural beauty of Torres del Paine.

Large lobby entrance with piped music blaring out of speakers suspended in the ceiling, varied music throughout most of the hotel. Bar, spacious lounge areas resulting in lack of cosiness and sound echoing around. Spacious rooms with superb views out to the TDP Central massif.

This is a commercial style property. Food very average and usually served as a buffet. Lack of any organisation at meal times can result in a lot of people going to get their food at the same time.

Standard rooms do NOT have view to the Massif, but superior rooms enjoy an outstanding view to the Massif.

Good for large groups but not if you want personal attention and an up-market service.

Located at Serrano village beside the Rio Serrano on the Western edge of Torres del Paine. Tranquil setting.

This is a rustic, simple and “innocent” place. No frills. Superb views to the central TDP massif. Rooms in cabins are cosy with rustic decor and corner windows offering the view to the TDP Central massif. Rooms in main building are subject to noise from the restaurant.

Estancia

ESTANCIA CERRO GUIDO →

This is a real-life-working estancia located outside the “official” Torres del Paine boundary, but in a fantastic position.

An authentic working sheep estancia with high-end accommodation decorated in an up-market rural, rustic style.

The superior rooms are very spacious, king beds, large bathrooms, superb views out over the straw-coloured Patagonian Ocean plane.

No electricity after 23:00hrs.

Emergency, portable light in each room.

The standard rooms are also excellent and only a little smaller in space than the superior rooms. Room 2 has a view to the TDP Central Massiff. 180 degree view from the restaurant out to the TDP Central Massiff and the Torres of Torres del Paine.

Enormous Fogon containing a super large fire pit for a Patagonian BBQ.

In our opinion a stay here will allow you to not only see Torres del Paine, trek the W, but also get a real-life experience of a real Patagonian estancia.

TIERRA PATAGONIA →

The main building is carved into the earth so as to be as unobtrusive as possible to the naked eye and camouflage into the natural landscape. It has a unique architecture of an aeroplane- wing-shaped roof to cut into the Patagonia wind, oodles of interior space, huge picture windows the length of the dining room, bar and lounge area offering unparallel views to the Sarmiento Lake, and the stunning Torres del Pine central massif the other side.

Should we include an itinerary or reservation (min 4-night all-inclusive stay) at Tierra Patagonia we will also include one of the following free of charge: Return flight per person Santiago to Punta Arenas (or Puerto Natales), hotel room for two, for one night any-where in Chile or Argentina up to USD400 per night, or a transfer from or to El Calafate if not included in the initial reservation.

Luxury Lodge

Awasi patagonia →

We offer all-inclusive programs at Awasi that include the transfers in and out, all meals, accommodation and privately chauffeured and guided tours.

Awasi Patagonia Location

The hotel is located in a wooded area on a hill east of the main Torres del Paine central area. Getting here involves an extended drive from the principal entry road into Torres del Paine.

Description

The property comprises a number of rectangular-shaped private suites individually placed within the trees, connected by footpaths to the main lodge. Clients need to either walk back and forth to the main lodge or can be transported in a vehicle.

Each suite is spacious, modern in style with deluxe-level furnishings. Bathrooms are also spacious, modern and in a high-end style as one would expect from a high-end property. There are large, picture windows along the length of the suite that allow for a stunning view out over the Patagonian landscape and in the distance over to the Torres of Torres del Paine. Each suite also has its own outdoor hot tub.

The main lodge, where people come to relax, read, have a cocktail and enjoy dinner, is adorned with comfy chairs and sofas, large lamps, paintings and sketches on the walls. From the dining area there is the same view as there is from the suites – out over the Patagonian landscape. Food is high level, but can be described also as “sophisticated”. Meals can also be taken to your suite for private dining.

The USP of Awasi is that every suite, therefore each couple, gets their own dedicated driver-guide and vehicle for the duration of their stay, meaning that all tours are private.

Patagonia (Yurt) Camp →

Located about 5km from the Serrano entrance to TDP. Yurt tents covered in durable plastic containing double beds, nice furnishings and en-suite shower rooms combine to create a cosy, high-end feel. However, the interior of the yurts can be very hot in the summer months, and noisy if the wind is blowing.

All connected by board walks at varying levels.

Beautiful views over lake and to the TDP central massif in the distance.
