El Chalten Mirador de Los Condores 2hr Trek

This is an easy, short walk to a hill that overlooks El Chalten village.

  • Start: El Chalten - Southern Sector of El Chalten, Park Rangers Welcome Centre
  • End: Mirador de Los Condores

  • Grade of Difficulty: Easy.
  • Trek Time: 2hrs, return.
  • Distance: 2.6km, return.
  • Season: All Year.

This is one of the shortest walks from El Chaltén and takes you to a viewpoint on the top of a small hill called Cóndores, which overlooks the village of El Chaltén. Often there are excellent views to the surrounding mountains, and these can be particularly special at sunrise and sunset.

Starting from the park ranger station located in the southern sector of the village, you will walk a few meters and pass a small gate. A sign will indicate the way to go and from here it will be another half an hour until you reach the Los Cóndores viewpoint. This path is relatively new, as it was created in 2004. It is very well signposted and on the path, there are several information boards that reveal details of the surrounding landscape.

As its name indicates, the viewpoint is located at a strategic point for the eventual observation of condors on their frequent glide path to and from the Fitz Roy river valley.

Staring at the sunset from this viewpoint can be a great farewell to your stay in El Chaltén.
