The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the largest glaciers in the Southern Patagonian Ice field. It can be viewed relatively easily from viewing points on dry land that are opposite the glacial face. Most compelling from this vantage point is that you can see it stretch back up and into the mountains for some 30km. At its “front end”, the glacial face is about 5km wide, with a vertical ice wall above water reaching heights of around 60mts – with much more of it under the water.

Description
The transfer route passes by the southern shore of “Lago Argentino” and past “Bahia Redonda”, where there is often a lot of birdlife than can observed. For the next 40km the route passes along the Patagonic Steppe before entering the tree-filled “Los Glaciares” National Park containing trees such as “Nires”, “Lenguas”, “Cohihues”, “Calkers”, “Notros” and Cinnamon.
Note that at the entrance to the National Park everyone will be required to pay the entrance fee into the Park.
Upon arrival to the carpark the guide will lead clients down to the different viewing platforms from which there are varying panoramic and direct views to the Perito Moreno Glacier. Clients will also be able to join a boat trip that passes in front of the glacial wall (see our menu options for “Safari Nautico” or click here), which we include as part of the full-day excursion.
Backpack, outdoor trekking clothes (warm, water-proof and wind-breaker jacket, trekking pants (or trousers for the English), sturdy outdoor trekking boots, hat, sun glasses, lip balm, sun-screen cream, camera, water bottle and maybe a box lunch.
Clients should try to bring a box lunch (ask hotel to prepare one the night before), but there is also a service area in the Park that includes a small restaurant and a snack bar.
Note: Even if back in El Calafate the sun is shining and the morning is warm, or even hot, at the glacier is can be COLD when the wind blows down off the freezing ice.
